Begins Sunday (tomorrow) October 25 at 7:00pm EST. Open thread until it peters out!
“An American book translator in Paris, Chloe Underwood, longing for some excitement, gets more than she bargains for when a new assignment immerses her in a deadly world of murder and illegal arms, forcing her to go into hiding with a mysterious stranger.” Click on the book for an excerpt.
Please join me in my experiment to see if a blog can work as a book discussion platform. This will be a spoiler discussion, so if you haven’t read Black Ice and don’t want to be spoiled, stay away.
I’ll put up a post which will not be a review. It may have a few questions to get things going, one of which will definitely be: were initial physical relations consensual, and if not, does it matter? Another may be, “can we cheer for an amoral hero, and if so, why didn’t we cheer for the hero in Linda Howard’s Death Angel?”
If I get more than 5 participants and 10 comments, I will consider it a success, and do another one in a month or so.
So please, if you’ve read it, pipe up!
Thanks!

I’ve just read it this morning.
I’m so proud of myself, actually managing to read it before the required date: I sometimes intend to participate in planned on-line discussions, but typically forget to actually read the book in time.

@Marianne McA: Fab! “See” you tomorrow!

I think I have a copy, but I have to find it and read it. I may be able to manage that. I’m on PST, though, so I will be late — 4:00 is still pub time.

I’ll probably add my 2 cents on Monday. Google seems to be telling me that EST is GMT-5, which would make it midnight here. Then again, the clocks go back tonight, so perhaps Google would tell me something different tomorrow…
I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s take on the book.

Yes, Eastern Time is GMT-5. So 7pm my time (EST) is obviously midnight for Londoners (except that, as you say, there’s the October 25 daylight savings time adjustment will factor in. Our adjustment is next weekend.).
I think of it as “Open Thread”, which, like any of my threads, can be contributed to a day or a week after it is posted.
It’s not like a chat, and I will not be sitting at my computer undisturbed all of Sunday evening. In fact, I never sit at my laptop undisturbed, unless I am at work. At this very moment, I should really be putting the potatoes in the now preheated oven, checking to see what my dog is munching on in the next room, letting the angry wet cat inside, throwing a log on the fire, and giving another dose of Tylenol to the sick child. Oh, and going into the playroom to see my spouse’s hole in one in Wii frisbee golf.
Happy weekend!
