I loved this book! The whole series so far really works for me. Much better then Twilight in my opinion, a complex plot and interesting characters. I'm anxiously waiting on book 4. I need to go reread and write some reviews. This is one of the better YA paranormals.

I totally agree.

New vs. old hat? I dunno, it seems that most vampire stories include a servant class, defined in different ways. Sometimes they’re thralled, like semi-slaves; it depends on the mythos I suppose. Ward has her weird race of happy subservient doggen, Viehl has a similar thing.

I am not much of a YA reader, either, although I loved Harry Potter and the Phillip Pullman series. This is only my second book in the YA/romance subgenre. It's not so much my thing, although I am glad I've tried it.

It's funny to compare Ward's doggen to the heroine of this book. She is a fighter, and has more respect, I think, but at root, they are both servants.

As someone who read both Twilight and Vampire Academy, definitely this world is better, the characters are better. Twilight may have a more gripping narrative though.
Thea read all the books in this series and she LOVES them. They only get better it seems.
Gald to see you reading more YA Jessica.

I am very curious to see what becomes of Rose, Lissa, Dimitri and the gang. I may just have to keep reading!

I haven’t read any of Richelle Mead’s books. I was actually going to buy one the other day but I couldn’t decide between this and Succubus Blues. So didn’t buy one. Maybe I’ll go ahead and get Vampire Academy. Thanks for the review!

I thought this was well worth reading if you like paranormal and you like YA.
