@ willaful:
That rule turned out to be a little too restrictive given Audible's selection. I now only refuse to listen to men read women's voices.

"I now have a new audio romance rule: I just don’t want to hear men pretending to be women or women pretending to be men anymore."

I'm listening my first audiobook, When He Was Wicked, and I already know I'm not going to finish it, because the thought of the male reader doing the heroine's voice during the sex scenes just makes me want to hurl.

Have you already read Ladies' Man? It was not great, IMO. I would go with Heart Throb, if you wanna go non-series.

Oooh, Victoria, Frisco's Kid is da bomb. You're so right. The Team 10 books are so great. A little dated, sure, but still relevant and wonderful.

I remember that one as being a bit slow, also--it was the first in that set that had contemporary plot alternating with historical plot. Overall, I liked that series less than her others, though I did find the historical plots interesting.

My favorites of hers remain some of her SEAL categories. I'm still reading her Troubleshooters books as well, which are excellent, but more romantic suspense than simple romance.

*Ponders favorite categories* I'd rec...PRINCE JOE; HARVARD'S EDUCATION; and FRISCO'S KID. The latter is my favorite.

Sarah,

I read this one because of your enthusiasm, and I did like it, so thank you! I already bought another Brockmann, can't think of the name, but it has a couple meet in a taxi, he's a cop...

I will try Heart Throb next.

I was not turned off by the military stuff at all. I thought it was handled really well. I was bracing myself for Tom to walk into convenience stores and save cashiers from holdups with his hidden stash of automatic weapons and strut around beginning every sentence with, "Well, as a SEAL..." or "You do know that I am a SEAL..." But it was portrayed very matter of factly.

#3 (Stan and Terri) and #4 (Ken and Savannah) are fabulous. Both written before 9/11, although Ken's book was published after it. If you didn't adore #1, I'd skip #2 and come back to it if you do fall in love with the series. Too many people had WAY too many problems with the heroine, so if you didn't like Kelly, you'll despise Meg, trust me. (I like her, but I'm in distinct minority. Suz could make me like anyone.)

Try Heart Throb. It's a stand-alone about making a movie. My favorite Brockmann of all time, and I AM a Troubleshooter Fangrrl of the first degree. ;)

I think the series gets better as it goes along. The next few are some of the best ones. My favorites are all the books with the WW2 backstories. And Stan's book is fabulous. A must read.

Like Robin, I'm not a big reader of military-inspired romance, but I've read several Brockmanns and enjoyed a couple. Unsung Hero didn't grab me, and I agree that the emotional weight of the story doesn't rest with Tom and Kelly.

Two that I did like:

Hot Target (Cosmo and Jane) has some lighter touches, and I think the historical flashbacks meld better than usual with the present-day romances. Despite the flashbacks, it's a reasonably fast pace, as I recall. It's also the start of Jules and Robin's romance.

The other characters (spread out over several books) that interested me were Sam and Alyssa, though not until I read "their" book, Gone Too Far. In that one Sam turned out to be a more interesting character than I'd expected, and changed how I saw their earlier interactions.
