@ Sherry Thomas: Boy, am I glad I don't automatically close comments on my posts after a certain number of days! What a welcome way to have one of my very first posts resurrected!

Can I start a rumor that Sherry Thomas is writing the first romance novel featuring a suffragist heroine? And the hero is ... um... an MP who is fervently opposed to it because his ... um ... dearly departed wife was trampled during a political rally! There's gold in them thar hills, I really feel it. ;)

Thanks again for your visit.

LOL, authors like Sherry Thomas will indeed keep on writing them.

I haven't read Rachel's review of DELICIOUS, although I do find it odd that she thinks of Verity as a feminist heroine. Rachel enjoyed PRIVATE ARRANGEMENTS much better, and if ever I had to pick one of my heroines as feminist, I'd have picked Gigi instead. I'm sure she would be the sort to open her wallet to suffragist causes, when all Verity wants--it seems to me--is a decent life for herself and her child. I don't think Verity ever sits down and thinks about the fact that she can't vote, and boy does that burn her ass. :-)

The funny thing was, during DELICIOUS's 16-month writing odyssey, at one point, Lizzy, the secondary heroine, actually joined a group of suffragists! Later I changed her character around completely and out went the suffragist bit. But had the final-version Lizzy married Stuart, you bet she'd be whispering in her husband's ear about bringing up a new voting rights bill in parliament.

Whereas Verity probably wouldn't give two hoots about what Stuart actually does in the House of Commons, so long as he comes home to her. So in my POV, Verity is the least feminist of all my heroines.

But it takes two to dance. And every reader reads a different DELICIOUS. And this is just my take on those characters. :-)
